Liz specializes in renewable and low carbon energy projects. She has advised start-ups, developers, contractors, project companies and investors on a variety of renewable energy projects in sectors which include solar, biomass, energy from waste, green hydrogen and more recently carbon capture and storage projects. She brings 25 years’ experience both as a private practice lawyer and as an in-house lawyer working on large complex project-financed infrastructure projects combined with her renewable energy experience.
Previous experience includes:
CARBON, CAPTURE AND STORAGE: seconded into bp to the Hydrogen & CCUS division of the Gas and Low Carbon business to support the development of the transport and storage elements of the East Coast Cluster under DESNZ’s cluster sequencing programme. Provided legal and commercial support to the in-house bp commercial team and supported the negotiation of joint venture arrangements on the Shareholder Agreement, Asset Transfer Agreements, Equity Subscription Agreements, the Operating Services Agreement, and Interface Agreements. The project is seen as a first of a kind (FOAK) and a blueprint for developing further CCUS projects in the UK.
SOLAR: act for various solar developers and solar community energy projects.
EV CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE: acted on electric vehicle charging projects.
BIOMASS: drafted and negotiated EPC, O&M and interface agreements on biomass projects while working as an in-house legal/commercial manager for Balfour Beatty Investments Ltd and subsequently as in-house legal for Cogen Ltd, a biomass projects developer.
ENERGY FROM WASTE: Led the sub-contract workstreams on 2 large municipal energy from waste projects for Balfour Beatty Investments Ltd. Responsible for the construction, operation and maintenance and interface agreements, as well as ancillary documentation such as bonds and security package documents for funders.
GREEN HYDROGEN: Acted for a green hydrogen developer on the Shoreham Port project in its initial stages. Responsible for the strategic partnering agreement. Now acting for a green hydrogen developer on their biomethane to green hydrogen hub projects, responsible for drafting and negotiating the off-take agreements.
DISTRICT HEATING/ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE: Act for Carbon and Energy Fund, a special purpose vehicle co-created with the Department of Health specifically created to fund, facilitate and project manage complex energy infrastructure upgrades for the NHS and the wider public sector. Acted on several of their energy infrastructure upgrade projects funded through the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. Projects involve variations to the project agreements.
ENERGY SUPPLY CONTRACTS: Advised SmartestEnergy on retail energy supply contracts, trading agreements, PPAs and drafting bespoke route to market agreements associated with the capacity market and battery storage projects.
CHP: Worked as one of two lawyers supporting a team of 25 on a pathfinder combined heat and power project in South Hook. Was responsible for selecting the EPCM partner and drafting and negotiating the contracts for the outer battery limits of the project that linked up to an LNG plant. Contracts were based on NEC3.
previous work history
Before joining Lux Nova Partners, Liz worked for 3 years at Spencer West LLP setting up the renewable energy practice. Prior to that, she worked as a consultant for a number of different organisations, as a senior commercial manager in the economic infrastructure projects team at Balfour Beatty Investments Ltd for five years and in private practice with Addleshaw Goddard LLP and Bevan Ashford LLP in the projects team for ten years.
